What is Your Budget's Name?
Hi everyone! I've always had a difficult time naming my budget in YNAB and I've been wondering what other people name their budgets. And now I have a place to ask!
Is your budget name something silly, meaningful, or serious? I would love to know!
My budget is usually called "Lemons and Limes" because when I was little and my family was doing well financially we would have more fresh produce in the kitchen because we could afford it.
Thank you to anyone that replies!

Hi Kate,
I’m so glad you asked, because it’s got me thinking that I should do something more interesting in the naming of our budget.
Mine is ‘Budget 2016’. I’ve been a YNABer since version 3, and in January 2016 was when they cut over to YNAB online, and I spent New Year’s Day 2016 moving to the online. I figured when I was more settled with the new system, I’d change it, but never did. 😀
I love that you named yours Lemons and Limes and that it has meaning to you. I’m going to put some more thought into mine.

I'm boring. When I started YNAB 4, I called my budget "2012 Budget" because in YNAB 3 I'd be restarting every year to reduce file size and improve performance. Turned out that 2012 Budget lasted till late November 2017; at that point, I chopped the data down to starting at January 2017 so I could export to web-based YNAB. Of course, I called the new budget "2017 Budget."
Then I took 3 tries to get it where I was happy with what came over. All 3 resulting budgets had similar names, and I could never remember which was the newest and best. So when I found it the last time, I renamed it "2017 nYNAB Budget."
I know, I'm boring.

When I first started 2017, my budget was just named "2017". I know I was taking it too seriously because halfway through the year I ended up starting a new budget that I named "Budget for Initiative 2017" to reflect my ramped-up D&D hobby. Around that time I'd also started a non-budget called "Category Tester" that I was using to "finalize" my budget categories.
Once I was satisfied with that, I made a fresh start of the Category Tester "budget" and turned it into my current one, which is "Power Word Budget". In D&D, "Power Word" spells are high level spells that either do great damage or help greatly depending on which Power Word spell is used. I'm hoping my "Power Word Budget" will help me immensely in the coming years 😂

I was only vaguely aware you could name a budget. I knew you had to save it as something but I had no idea you could change it.
Armed with such knowledge, I may have to consider my options. I have about 4 budgets, and I never can remember which one is which and I am always switching til I find the right one.

Norbert, named for the dragon hatchling with hiccoughs in Harry Potter.
This came about as a result of a discussion on the old forum where maylou posted a comment about how we were not dragons hoarding gold, and withforksandhope responded by saying it would be funny if someone named their budget Smaug, the dragon in Lord of the Rings. This greatly amused me for some reason, and I joked that when one has a small treasure, one only needs a small dragon like Norbert. Ever since I tend to think of my budget as Norbert.

Love this topic. As others have said, I hadn't thought about naming my budget.
This got me thinking and I came up with Bill. I am single and things have come up where I had to say, in public, I had to check my budget. That felt powerless. Now I can say let me check with Bill. I figure most will assume Bill is my partner and if they ask who Bill is, will tell them he's my accountant. Bill seems to work as my budget is ruled by bills, both the kind I have to pay and the kind I use to pay them.
My budget might have gone on forever without a name. Thanks.
