Use iPhone double tap to open YNAB

iPhone introduced a feature where you can double (or triple) tap the back of your phone to do certain functions set by you. A popular one is double tap for screenshot (I recommend using triple tap for screenshots because sometimes just putting the phone down screenshots- oops).
anyway, you can set the double tap to open YNAB. One less step for those (iPhone) YNAB users who dislike manual entry because it takes too long.

Double tap (YNAB opens).  Tap + at bottom to enter transaction. Enter amount. Start entering payee (auto fill will suggest or you can use geo payee to suggest ). Save transaction.

(This process assumes you are entering a transaction for a payee you have used previously and you want to use to same category and bank account as YNAB remembers these things for you. But you can obviously change the category and/ or account before saving).

Okay *that* is absolutely gangsta. Thank you!

I actually set “add a transaction” to be the siri short cut, and then set the double tap to launch the shortcut. And now a double tap takes me straight to adding a transaction! 😍

  • ALSO: A long hold on the ynab icon brings up a menu where you can choose add a transaction.
