Canadian cash back credit card deal

Creditcardgenius has an offer right now for the Scotia Momentum Visa that is awesome. $100 signup bonus. First year fee waived. Up to 10% cash back for first 3 months. It’s the best cash back card in Canada. We use this and get about $1000 cash back every year (covers most of Christmas). With the way YNAB handles credit cards I never have to worry about getting into debt or not paying the card. We pay EVERYTHING possible with this card. The main expenses are groceries so every store purchase is paid through this. Except Costco warehouse. They don’t take Visa.
Here is the offer. The $100 is through creditcardgenius so you have to go there and click through. You can convert the card to a no fee card the second year with less cash back. We kept it and pay the fees because we make so much more than any other card. It also has benefits like insurance etc.

  • Here is our actual cash back on this card. Note that the second year we applied again under hubby’s name to get the new customer deal again. That’s why two cards are showing. Also I do believe there is a minimum income requirement. But we “made” over $3000.

  • I never knew that there was actually cashback for the black card. I think that's actually great. Good for you and your husband. I will also think about applying for one, in this matter. Congratulations to you both, you must've been good payers that's why.

SavingsMentor I signed up for the BMO Cashback World Elite card. The cashback program is a bit convoluted but with the $100 from CreditcardGenius (which is already in my PayPal account), I figure I will be about $250 ahead.  Since my options for making extra money are limited by my job (and I am not crafty) I look at every opportunity to get some cash coming in.

since the BMO Mastercard cashback program is convoluted, I have set up the YNAB flags to indicate which BMO category a transaction falls into eg. groceries, gas, etc. I could do it by payee but I figure this is better. I have the toolkit installed on my computer (wish the toolkit would work on the iPad) so I have named the flags. I can never remember what the flags are supposed to mean. Alternately, I could use a #groceries in the memo to pull this info as well.

I am going through the list of my scheduled transactions in YNAB for recurring billing and updating the card on those accounts as there is a separate category for recurring transactions (see I said it was convoluted).
