Credit card activity confusion

I'm having a hard time understanding why my one credit card has activity of 0 when a payment has gone through.  The rest of my cards have the -xx.xx for ammount i've paid, but this one card is showing 0.00 and none of my budget i set this month was removed for the payment.






As I type this out, i might be beginning to understand.  Is this because it pulled budget from the category that the purchases were for?  Should the budget for credit card payments only be for debt paydown and not credit cards that I pay off monthly?

  • You got it! For a card you pay off you don't put anything in that card's Budgeted column. You've already put those budgeted amounts into the expense categories themselves. So as long as what you've spent on the card was fully budgeted for in the appropriate expense categories YNAB just pulls the amount "spent" up into the green available column.

  • The main time you would budget toward a card you pay off is to cover the starting balance. YNAB keeps up with any budgeted purchases you make afterward. The category Available should cover the debt (account balance) at all times.
