Two Huge Wins!

It finally feels safe to say this: I am a full month ahead!

It has been three long years (almost exactly), and we have finally made it to this point of living off of our last month of income. October is fully funded and we will be able to send all of our October paychecks into November. I never could have imagined being here three years ago.

We have been close so many times and then something would come up and we would need to eat into that buffer to cover it to avoid taking on debt again. The progress was so painfully slow. But after the first few stumbles at getting ahead, it became clear that building up for true expenses had to come first so that we didn't keep undoing the work at getting ahead.

On top of that, we are now paid-in-full credit card users. Every purchase is backed 100% by cash.

It feels weird to have this much cash on-hand. That old part of me from pre-YNAB is so tempted to just take it all and pay more debt off to get it done faster, but then we would be right back where we started. We have a plan, we're funding true expenses and paying extra towards the debt, and we have some added clarity from being ahead. I need to keep reminding myself that those sprints forward mean nothing if we keep putting ourselves at risk of falling further back into the hole.

Anyway, big thanks to all of the forum vets who put out so many great idea and resources. Wouldn't have made it this far without the community.

  • Wow! That's amazing.  Good work!  All that hard work really does pay off.  I know what you mean about having all this cash laying around (figuratively), what should I do with it?  Well, look at the budget, THEY ALL HAVE JOBS TO DO!  Woo Hoo!  :)

Bruce That's the hard part, knowing that they have jobs and not mentally giving them multiple jobs. Have to keep reminding myself not to do that anymore. That and considering future money for my current spending decisions are exactly why I needed YNAB to being with.

I was wondering where was this discussion with YNAB vets helping online with animal ailments for cheap.

Then I figured it out 😉

    Congrats.

Ceeses That being said, if there are any YNAB veterinarians on here I wouldn't turn this down lol. The pups certainly like to test me on making sure I keep enough funds budgeted for them.
