First YNAB renewal check-in / brag
We started out using YNAB 12/2019, but practiced on our own spreadsheets in October & November. First YNAB renewal charge processed this month.
We're on track to eliminate the credit card debt a few months earlier than estimated, we were able to buy a better car from my in-laws with cash and give the beater to a friend who'd lost her home & car. We've been able to make monthly donations to the local food bank or other charities alongside direct assistance to that same friend & others.
While we are very fortunate to have remained employed through the worst of Indiana's COVID shutdowns it was the cost-controlling discipline that YNAB's method helped us develop that made it possible this change possible :
In 2020 we very nearly "saved" (that is, improved our net worth by eliminating debt and building cash buffer for months of living expenses) the equivalent of the lesser of our salaries and I put the utilities on autopay - things previously unimaginable to me.
So happy new year everyone, and thanks to Jesse for publishing the You Need A Budget book and to all of you for posting about your experiences.
