Capital One syncing is busted again

Basically the same issue I had in this thread: https://support.youneedabudget.com/t/35hy7nh/plaid-sucks-is-it-going-to-get-any-better

Can someone change my provider back?  Having to enter the username and password every day sucks a lot.

  • I'm starting to wonder if it's how YNAB implements Plaid.  Other banks use them and I am not required to enter my username/password every day.  Though they usually ask me for my 2FA which I am ok with.

The new Google Pay seems to use Plaid too and I have had no issues with it.

  • Lavender RouterAs a Capital One user myself, I definitely understand how cumbersome those frequent reauthorization for Capital One can be. As of now, though, it is expected.

That said, if you're finding that you can't connect or retrieve imports, even after reauthorizing, that's definitely not expected. If that's the case, be sure to get in touch with our support team to report a Bank Importing Issue and our support team will be happy to help!

  • @rachelh_ynab  Now I can't even connect at all.  Is there any way you can put me back on the old import provider?  When you guys switched me from Plaid to the old provider and it solved all my problems, can you do it again?

If this goes on much longer I might have to ask for a refund, the site has been unusable for me since this provider change happened.

    • Lavender Router I'm wondering how things are looking for you today. We rolled out OAuth for Capital One connections on Mx, and I'm hopeful that you were able to connect 🤞🏻 Since Plaid's integration with Capital One is still broken, I'm afraid making the switch back is likely not the best option.

All that said, if you're still finding you can't connect at all, definitely get in touch with support so that we can take a closer look!

Rachel I know I've been manually switched to different import partners over the years, so I can't keep track at this point which accounts work best with which provider.  Or maybe I should say, which providers work best with which banks.  Is there a way to find that out?  I have Plaid right now, and it doesn't even recognize Capital One where I used to just do the two-factor auth, so I guess that's the broken integration you speak of.  It's not a huge deal for me as I only have two smallish accounts with them that I can manually handle so I never bothered support with it.

But if I were to request a switch over how can I find out which other accounts may "break" or work again?  Just wondering!

    • Annieland Great question! You're right - Plaid's integration with Capital One is still in the works. That said, I can say for sure that at this time, Mx is the only import partner with which you'd have success connecting to Capital One.  Of course, we're hopeful that will change in the future!

Which banks work best with which import partner can change frequently, as banks make big and small changes on their end. If you'd like, you can report a bank importing issue to our support team and they'd be happy to take a look at your connections to see if you might have a better overall experience with Mx!

    • Lavender Router Oh, I'm so glad to hear it! I'm a Capital One user myself and can say that getting reconnected this morning was a game. changer. Of course, don't ever hesitate to reach out to support if you run into any other snags.

  • Is there a trick to getting connected to Capital One? I've only been using the app for a couple weeks but have never successfully gotten my CapOne accounts to link.

  • I left YNAB and went back to Mint.  Their issues with Capital One destroys their concept of tracking every dollar so I don't see any benefit of paying a premium for their service when vital bugs exist.

Tan Sloth Good for you.  If Mint has what you need, and you're satisfied with their service, then you might as well use their service.  Although how the inability to sync your bank account destroys the concept of tracking every dollar escapes me.  But if so, then you're right, it's not worth paying for.

      OR

Use it the way it's intended, and input your transactions daily (either at the point of sale, or sometime between then and that evening) by going through your receipts.

Some people just use import as a check to  make sure something didn't get forgotten, and that can be done with Direct Import, or Manual File based Import.  It's super easy.  I do it every day.  I don't even have my accounts linked, I just do manual import and it literally takes less than 5 minutes a day for the couple of active accounts that I do daily imports for.

Bruce Glad to hear that YNAB has such champions for its application LOL.  If everything is intended to be done manually, then they are basically charging for rudimentary excel functionality haha.  If that's the purpose and everyone is excited about that then I'll provide a spreadsheet with embedded formulas for $5 a piece LOL!

Tan Sloth like I said, if it's not meeting your needs, go somewhere that does. I think I'll pass on your spreadsheet, though. Thanks for the offer anyway.

Tan Sloth Nope, it works now. I am connected to my Cap One accounts and have had no issues since they introduced OAuth. It just takes contacting support if your accounts are set up through an import partner that doesn't support OAuth.

That’s what I did and mine is working fine. I did loose access to PayPal sync that way, but since I’m not using that anymore it was no loss.
