Ready to Assign doesn't match up with Bank balance

I've just started using YNAB. When I import the csv for my bank transactions, the Ready Assign reports a number that is a couple of hundred bucks higher than the Bank balance I added (the only one I have thus far in my Accounts). Even the bank balance shown in the sidebar is different from the "Ready To Assign" amount. What's happening?

It's hard from your post to tell what you've done and therefore to offer help. But here's step 1: don't import a csv of bank transactions. Whatever your cleared bank account balance is the day you start, enter that as the starting balance for that account.

If you're truly starting from scratch, that will set RTA equal to your bank account balances and off you go.

    • WordTenor Why should I not import the csv? I want to see the pattern of my purchase before I set a new budget. The amount indicating my bank balance is correct...but I'm not sure about the RTA amount.

Salmon Captain if you just want to review your old spending, that's fine. but don't try to build your new budget with all those old transactions. Take note of the information you gathered from the import and start a fresh budget going forward. If you do that, the budget side of things from the old transactions won't matter.

  • Hey Salmon Captain ! Are you importing historical data from your CSV? When you first start your budget, we recommend looking forward—by adding your account balances as of today, then any transactions from that point.

I see you're already in touch with our support team and they'll help you get set up!

  • The number next to the bank account indicates my bank balance is correct. However, I'm not sure why the RTA amount is not? Aren't these amounts dictated by code?

I wanted to import in my transactions to understand the pattern of my spending before setting up my budget...

AFAIK I have yet to receive any response from the support team.
