How to track spending promised money
Consider the following scenario. My company has promised to cover the bills for my trip. I spend the money and expect to get it back from my company in few days.
How do I track this?
I would create a category for your company and record all the payments in that category (against the bank account or credit card used). Then, on receipt of the refund, credit it back to the same category (and use that money to clear the credit card if needed). You could then hide the category until you need it again.
I have a Work Expenses category. I do exactly as detailed above. I used to use it more but now it is a lot less. I don't hide it, it is always there in case i need it. My husband is self-employed and on occasion he uses our money instead of company money. We record it in there as well so we can record it eventually as his business expenses and reimburse us.
