CREDIT CARD PAYMENT TO LINKED ACCOUNT NOT SHOWING

I'm 12 days into my trial period and enjoying YNAB.   I have linked all accounts.  My concern -  I linked a Costco CITI Credit Card.     I paid the balance in full (about  $2000) from my linked checking account.   The transaction cleared on August 6th from my checking account and shows up in YNAB.  If I login online to CITI Card, it shows the  payment received and cleared on August 5th.    But it is 7 days later and YNAB is still not showing this payment.  It shows a balance of negative $2000 on the card.  Since that time I have made other purchases on the card which show up within a day - and another payment was made on August 10th which also appears on YNAB.   Any idea why this one payment from one week ago is not showing up on YNAB?       It has become a thorn in my side since it is still showing a negative balance in YNAB but the credit card is paid off.

  • No idea but you can add it and clear it yourself.

  • i thought of that -  went into the credit card account on YNAB and tried to add the $2000 to the credit card account since the payment cleared 6 days ago. Then YNAB told me I could do it but that my balance would be off from what it was showing in the account.    SO I am waiting and hoping the transaction will show up soon.

Green Inspector that doesn't make sense. The balance would be off now, not after the payment entry.

  • You can see that the payment to the credit card for 2062.17 cleared by checking account august 6.  When I log into citi bank the payment shows 2062.17 on the balance on August 5.  It also shows my $45 payment on august 10.  As you see in the picture YNAB links my citi Costco credit card and shows the $45 payment I made but not the $2062.17.  So my overall account balance on the credit card is negative when the payment cleared almost a week ago.  Does that make sense ?

Green Inspector are you entering the credit card payment as a transfer by using the payee Transfer to credit card? From your screen shot, it appears that you are entering the payments as a payee CITI CARD ONLINE PAYMENT and using the Savings category.  Credit card payments do not use a category. Please confirm.

    • MXMOM  thank you - this was the issue.  I appreciate the help.   Now the numbers are showing up correctly -  although I am still waiting for the citicard to "clear" the transfer on the credit card account.

Green Inspector yes in the mobile app you kind of have to know that. In the web app, there is actually an amount showing and the words Make Payment which makes it more intuitive. I have submitted a feature request to YNAb to add the Make Payment option in the mobile app because more and more people are only using their phones or tablets to use YNAB. It is confusing when the features don’t line up. Glad you figured it out. Hang in there. YNAB is great. People over complicate it. Start basic and then add things later as you learn and understand more. And you don’t have to be perfect (but the account DO have to have correct balances). Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

  • Hi Green Inspector ! A couple of things: first, you'll want to edit those transactions to indicate they are Credit Card Payments. If your account balances are off after that, it is likely because your starting balance was off (that happens). The solution is to reconcile your accounts, making an automatic balance adjustment for the discrepancy.

    • Green Inspector Oh good!  You can mark it as clear that on your end, but do reach out if it doesn't import within 3 days of clearing at the bank!
