New to YNAB, Love it!

I've been using YNAB on the free trial for a month now and I have to say I really love it.  I had been using Mint, and before that Quicken.  I wasn't satisfied with the budgeting approach with either.  I was skeptical of paying for YNAB but I can now clearly see the benefit.  I really like the flexibility in moving categories around to align with personal priorities.  Keeping true to the 4 rules (it took a little faith before I understood it fully) has been a huge help.  There is a learning curve for sure, but I have to say that the support via help, youtube, etc. has clarified everything.

I was concerned about starting this right before the holidays, and now I am really glad I did.  November and December served as the set-up/training period.  Now I'm really looking forward to working through 2020 and seeing the progress for a full year.

It has been really validating to read here in this forum how others have many of the same questions, not only about the app, but also about just budgeting life in general, especially when it comes to getting the wife on board.  The comments here, blog posts about shared funds, and more have really helped me think about the approach to that.  I highly doubt I could have convinced her to support the move to this system if I hadn't referenced those and thought about how to present it in a way that she would be receptive.  The value with this product goes beyond the software.  It's the system, the support, and the community that allowed me to customize it and make it work for our life.

We have a long way to go to realize our goals, which are pretty typical I think.  Get two kids through college, save for retirement, get rid of one credit card balance and a car loan, and somehow take a family vacation in there somewhere, all while still paying the bills.  With YNAB I can now see the full plan, prioritize everything in line with our goals, and ensure other non-important things don't get us off track.

There are a few features I would like to see added to improve the product, and I've submitted one of them.  None of them are deal breakers, but I can see where a few tweaks would make the tool even better.  Looking forward to seeing the YNAB team evolve the product even more, and love the level of communication about that they provide.

Thank you YNAB and the community for all you do.  It's a real difference maker for sure.
