Migrating from YNAB 4
If I choose to migrate from YNAB 4, does all my historical data come with it? I know it is recommended to start fresh but next month with the new operating system on my Mac I will no longer be able to access YNAB 4. Any suggestions?
Just be aware that if you have multiple budgets, they have to be migrated individually. Also the migration tool is not great. If you ever once used the red arrow for anything, including Pre-YNAB Debt, your past data (mainly the TBB/ATB) is going to look a hot mess. Easiest thing to do is have faith that all the transaction data is still there and correct, ignore the messy looking past and make sure that the current month is correct.Reply
Hi YNAB Richard !
I wanted to give you a bit of insight on migrating from YNAB 4 to the new YNAB. :)
You can migrate your entire budget to the online version of YNAB.The web-based version of YNAB handles several budget situations differently, including the way credit card payments, overspending, and future-dated transactions are reflected.
With this in mind, it is expected for your budget in the new YNAB to look different than your budget in YNAB 4. However, you can be confident two things remained exactly the same:
1. Transaction History. Every transaction in your account registers in YNAB 4 have migrated.
2. Budget History. The amount you budgeted each month in each of your categories is the same.
Depending on your overspending settings in YNAB 4 and if you had entered future-dated transactions into your register early, your account balances, To be Budgeted, and Available amounts may not be the same. I assure you all the money in your accounts is in your budget—you may just need to move money where you want it to be now.
Here’s some more detailed advice on adjusting your budget.
