Help: Hit buttons under Quick Budget and messed everything up!

I am new to YNAB and have been working hard this month getting everything set up and keeping up with all my transactions. I had "To Be Budgeted" at 0.  I didn't know what the Quick Budget stuff was and I clicked "Underfunded" and then "Set Available amounts to 0" just seeing what it would do.. and now I've messed everything up.  It shows I have a large negative "to be budgeted amount and all my Available amounts are at zero!  I have read other posts in the forum and people say there's an "undo" button but i don't see it anywhere. Please help.

  • I hope you haven't refreshed your browser yet, but the undo button is at the top left of the white budget screen, underneath the blue header. Yikes! Hope this helped!

Just a note, I think it's easier to only budget in the web app, and use the mobile for recording transactions or checking available amounts out and about.  I don't think there's an undo button on the mobile app

  • If you can't undo, try hitting Reset Budgeted Amounts. This will essentially roll your budget back to where it was on day one of this month. You'll have overspent categories due to spending you've done this month, but you should also have the money to cover the spending, because it will have rolled back to TBB.

Also. For future reference, the keyboard shortcut for Undo is CTRL-Z (command-Z on Mac, I think?).

  • Crazy that you can't account for every time money is moved (intentionally, unintentionally, in the background due to a button click, etc...).  I feel your pain.

glynab The ability to see the history of transfers is something that I'd really like to see in YNAB.

    • Hi glynab & Rick !

We're all about changing your budget as your priorities change. There isn't currently a way to track the movement of money between categories because we think your best information comes from looking at your actual spending rather than how accurate your first budgeting guess was. Though, in this context—I can understand where that would come in handy!

When you have a moment, would you mind submitting a Feature Request? That form goes directly to our team, so you can let them know what you’d like to see going forward. We can’t make any promises, but that puts it on our list of possibilities! 😄

  • If you're using Chrome or Firefox for your browser, please install the "Toolkit for YNAB" add-on. In addition to offering a warning note that you might regret clicking a quick-budget option unless you know for sure what it will do, it offers myriad other improvements, many of which are indispensable for me.

  • Yes I clicked the top button under "quick budget" as well, and it never asked me anything: I just suddenly saw everything change. I thought the "button" was going to provide me with a report or list. In my case the undo button was unclickable. Does anyone have any idea how to change whatever happened? Do I have to redo the entire project from scratch?

Steel Blue Motherboard not from scratch per se. You just have to reduce categories until they are at the amount you want them to be.

  • It looks like this is still an issue. I also mistakenly hit the Quick Budget option on the mobile app and since there is no undo function or restore function I guess I'm SOL. I really love this system so far but it's really upsetting to see a month's work of painstaking budgeting disappear by accident with one simple tap. While an "undo" feature is pretty necessary for the app (why the heck is not a thing yet?) some kind of additional warning before you tap OK would be REALLY nice. Ugh. So friggin disappointed.

    • Orange Case Same. Was sitting in the Chinese restaurant inputting my expense and hit a wrong button. It's so very frustrating. Apparently all thr moves I've made to try to correct it have made everything worse. Ive been doing so well. This is so very, very frustrating. Like, come on already!! 😥

Turquoise Cartridge  ugh so sorry to hear that! I was SO frustrated but I took the time to fix it this afternoon and I'm glad I'm keeping at it but I hope YNAB comes up with a decent fix.
