Changing the "default" account
I am hoping someone has an answer to this question. Is there a way or a trick to change what is auto suggested as the "default" account when entering a transaction on the app?
We recently had to change the "account/card" that we do 95% of our purchases because of fraud on our account. However, now every time we pull up to make a transaction, if we aren't paying attention it puts it in the wrong account (even if we do catch it, it's annoying to have to change it for everything).
Anyway, just seeing if anyone has found a way that I haven't figured out yet.
Is the old account closed? I don't think you can add a transaction to a closed account, so I assume YNAB app will suggest another account--or maybe just leave the Account line blank and make you choose, which is still better than nothing.
If the old account is still open, I don't think you can do anything about it, but I'd be glad to be wrong. I've run into the same issue.Reply
In the iOS app, the default payment seems to be whatever I used for the last transaction for that particular payee. It pulls up a different card for Subway than Wegman's, and gets it right in both cases. Then if I do a one-off using a different account, the next time I use that payee I have to change the account back to the regular one.Reply
Hi flyou10 ! It sounds like you're using the Geo Payees feature? When you enter a transaction on a mobile device, the location is saved. That way, the next time you're in that location, YNAB saves you time by filling in the payee—as well as the category and account you chose last time.
Once you've closed that account in YNAB, it should no longer appear as an option to add new transactions.
Until then, when you add a transaction at a new location (with the new account), the information for the Geo Payee will be updated. The payee and category will be automatically set for any future transaction at that location.
