Investment into Vanguard falls under "Expenses"

Curious to know why YNAB is brining my "Vanguard" transfers(from checking to Vanguard) as an "Expense" and as such brings this category into my total expense rate?

  • Is your Vanguard account a tracking account? If so, it is an expense because transfers from on-budget to tracking accounts represent money leaving your budget. If your Vanguard accounts are on budget, then it's because the payee is wrong and needs to be changed to a transfer.

  • An expense is just money leaving the budget. It doesn't necessarily mean you are spending it.
