Clearing a transfer via API makes YNAB want a category?

I'm just starting with the YNAB API, and am going through some weird behaviour:

I have a split transaction from my account, and one of the splits is a transfer to another account. I entered via the app, and it's all fine.

Then I try to clear the "other side" of the transfer via the API, using someghing like this:

This command runs fine, and when I come back to the web app, after it updates, I see the transaction is cleared, but I get the exclmation point and the yellow "this needs a category" message.

 

Is there something else I need to do? Am I doing something wrong? Anyone else going through this?
