Re: Inflow: To be Budgeted

As I run a small business my income is all over the place I see clients from week to week so I cannot enter a total amount I will earn in a month or the date it will come in, because it comes in dribbles.

 

To help me with my budget I would like to see "Inflow: To be Budgeted" in my budget screen,  so I can see how much I have earned this month to date.

 

this would make my life a lot easier. So how do I add the "Inflow: To be Budgeted" to the budget screen?

  • I think the only way to do this is to budget everything in the prior month, so the 'Funds for [Month]' will only display income received this month.

  • Perhaps take some time to take some of the get started classes. You don't enter in the income you expect to receive; you enter it as you receive it and budget it to your categories at that time. There is also a class on managing pay cycles which helps explain how to use YNAB with variable income, as yours is.

    Part of the magic of YNAB is that you only budget with the funds you currently have available. You won't be asked to enter a monthly income or amount. When you receive income, categorize it as Inflow: To Be Budgeted, then budget it towards your categories that have upcoming expenses. You'll repeat these steps each time you receive income.

    There isn't a way to see a running total of Inflow: To Be Budgeted on your budget screen. However, in the web app you can take a look at the Funds for [Month] to see how much you've had to budget for the month, or the Income vs. Expense Report to see the income you've received in the month.
