List of software utilizing the API

Hi,

Is there a list of publicly accessible software using YNAB API? I would be mostly interested in ones providing extra reporting capabilities.

This is probably not the best place to ask but I didn't know where to send this question otherwise.

Mike

  • Hi Mike,

I'm not sure if there's a list of publicly accessible software, but if you're interested in extra reporting, I created an app here you can check out: https://tomcheng.github.io/budget-reports

It's designed primarily to be viewed on a mobile device. I've only really tested it on my budget, so let me know if you find any bugs and I'll fix them!

Gray Admiral Ah it looks like the app is still in restricted mode, so it's limited to only a certain number of tokens, sorry about that! I've emailed ynab to get that lifted, will let you know when I hear back from them!

Angel Claudio This should be fixed now! You may have to refresh the app a couple of times.

If anyone's interested in the technical issue, you have to include the trailing slash in the redirect_uri, otherwise Safari strips out the hash on redirect.

thomas_ I like the spending trends for single category and income vs expense graph!

btw I'm looking at it on desktop and it's perfectly fine.

    • thomas_ Is there any chance you could add another feature to your app? I'd like to know how much I've budgeted for a particular category within a specific time frame. For example, let's say I'm saving for Christmas over 12 months. I set a goal in YNAB for $600 by next year. YNAB tells me I need to save $50 a month.

Well, in August I see a screaming deal on a Christmas gift and I buy it. Now YNAB will think I'm not going to hit my goal and it tells me to save even more per month. When in reality, if I keep saving $50/month, I'm still on track even though I had some early spending. I could lower my YNAB goal by the amount I just spent, but that gets tedious.

      Make sense?

Something Spicy yeah that makes sense, but I think it's something YNAB would have to implement. Ideally if you're entering a transaction to a category with a goal attached to it, it would prompt you to subtract the transaction amount from your goal.
