Transaction for a credit card

I’m trying to put a transaction in for a payment on a visa card. It’s not giving me the option to show activity of being paid

  • It should be a transfer from the bank account to the credit card. it will then show up in Activity as a payment.

  • Hi Blue Hail ! This article will help with the steps to enter your Credit Card Payment (or adjust one that's been imported). You'll use the Payee field to show how the money is moving between your accounts, if both accounts are on budget.

And make sure that your Credit Card Payment category has enough set aside for your intended payment—the article has a quick video on what that looks like.

  • Soooo, my iPad does not have the option of “Record Transaction”

when I use the transaction button, it doesn’t allow me to put in the category or the account.
It shows me the other cc, not this visa I want.
    im sure it’s me 🤣😳

Blue Hail Are you entering this transaction in the register for that visa? If so, that's why the visa isn't a choice.

    • Blue Hail You're right! iPad is a little different. Thanks for letting me know! Those steps are for the web app, and won't help there. 😉 This article will help with the mobile app. I'll let our team know you'd like to see some iPad visuals there too!

If you're using an iPad that is compatible with context menus (a newer Apple feature) you can tap & hold your Credit Card Payment category from the budget to see the Record Payment option.

Otherwise, tap Transaction then enter your payment like this:

  • Hello, so the “transfer to checking “ isn’t an option. And there is no “option not needed “ for the category. ;0(

    Ugh

I have another question as well. I’ve got some more income and so I need to budget it I filled in a hole with some money but now I want to add more money to some already budgeted items. It allows me to add the money but it doesn’t decrease my to be budgeted amount.

thank you in advance for your help.
and I have no idea why my name is “blue hail” 🤣

    • Blue Hail Has the checking account been added to YNAB yet? You may need to change the Account first. If that says Checking, you won't see the transfer option—because you wouldn't be making a transfer from and to the same account.

For adding more money to a category, make sure to tap the blue checkmark to save the new amount. Another way is to tap on To be Budgeted at the top of the iPad screen, then enter the amount and your category. That should do it!

    • Blue Hail When you log in to the forum for the first time, it automatically assigns you a name, avatar, and username. But you can change it, if you'd like!

Click your user icon in the upper right corner of the forum and select Edit Profile. The username can be changed under the Account tab on that same page. 🙂

Nicole thanks for getting back to me. I put everything in manually. I don’t link my checking. I did use this last month starting April 10. So I’m not sure. Also it still doesn’t show my second visa even though I added it later.
Not sure how to add checking. If I haven’t already did it?

    • Blue Hail We'd be more than happy to take a closer look at things if you're up for it! :)

If you'd like, go ahead and enable Support Access for your account. Once you’ve done that, let me know—and mention whether you’d like to continue the discussion here or via email instead.

Faness have enabled my YNAB app. A couple different times I tried to do what they said and it just screwed up my money to be budgeted etc.

My problem is that I want to record that my credit card payments  have cleared from my checking account  I can’t seem to get it to work.

Blue Hail It should be a simple matter of making a transfer transaction from checking to the credit card and then when the payment has cleared in your checking account, marking that transfer as cleared.

    • Thanks Blue Hail ! A credit card payment will be an inflow to the credit card and an outflow in your checking account. It looks like there is a second transaction that's flipped! The outflow transfer from the credit card on the 9th can be edited, or removed.

Just make sure that your transactions in YNAB shows exactly what's happening in your real accounts, and that the balances in YNAB are correct. I sent you a quick email too! 🙂

    • Blue Hail I did, and sent a reply! Our mobile resources will help for the iPad, even though it has a bit more screen real estate—the mechanics are similar to iOS. Here is how to enter a credit card payment.

Let me know if you have other questions!
