To Be Budgeted shows weird amount in red when I add money to CC

Ok, Up front, I don't have a screen grab for any of this. I will if it happens again.

I deposited $500 in my checking account. Entered it in ynab. I decided to put it towards a cc. When I put the $500 in the cc on the budget, To Be Budgeted showed up a bright red -$834

The money was there! I panicked and moved around money to cover it. That's why I don't have a screenshot.

Why did it do that? How do I not do that next time?

  • Were you possibly looking at next month's budget when you saw the red TBB? That has an unfortunate possibility of going negative without you knowing about it when you make budget adjustments in the current month.

Another possibility: confirm the $500 was recorded as an inflow.

Bottom line: if your YNAB accounts match those in the real world, fixing the red was the right thing to do. Without Undoing your corrections, though, it's difficult to tell what might have happened and therefore what to avoid in the future.
