To be budgeted?

Can I have different categories or does it all go into one pot?

For example the first of the month for the pension.. that I deduct some payments from

Next add my new job - midmonth- and deduct bills from that check?

Still learning!

  • There is only one TBB, but the reports will break it out based on payee.  So you can have "Main Job" in the payee field of one transaction, and "pension" in the payee field of another transaction, and the reports will break out your income in that way.

It's all considered income, and all needs to be put into budget categories, regardless of source, but you can still keep track of how much you got from which source with the payee field.  Set them up as scheduled transactions, and you won't have to remember what you called it each time it comes through.

Bruce   Thank you!  Yes, I like it broken down by category so I can better keep track.  Has this always been in TBB? Or am I just the last to notice ? 😜

You could create two category GROUPs and put your specific expense categories within that you pay from the two different income streams you have

I used to do this as I get paid bi-weekly, until I was able to get a month ahead.  I had a category group called "Front End" for all the bills that got paid from my first paycheck, and the the other group was called "Back End" for all the bills that got paid with the second paycheck. Any income left over after any savings or extra debt payments after those main categories were funded went to my "Income for Next Month" category so that I could eventually use all income received in each month for the following month's expenses.

Melissa  That works great for me...not sure about the front end and back end! Anything left over is added to my savings too which may not follow ynab and works for me.

  • Bruce is right on here 👍🏻 All income should be categorized as To be Budgeted, but you can specify the source in the payee field. You can also use flags and memos to indicate anything else you'd like about those inflows!
