YNAB says I'm almost at my savings goal, but in fact I'm way off!
YNAB is telling me I've almost met one of my budget goals, when in fact I have 0 available for that goal and a negative number in activity. It seems it is counting the money I spent this month as going towards the goal, when in fact that money was an outflow, and not available.
Does this make sense? I think it is because I had an OLD goal for the category, which I had to adjust when the expense came due earlier than expected. So I paid the balance due this month, but know that I will have another bill in a few months.
The only way I can make it accurate is to artificially increase the savings goal to cover the current outflow plus the expected upcoming expense.
It is like there is a "ghost" goal still there...

A Save by date goal works best to have established the goal in next months area for the next instance of the bill.
You're right, I Love Horses ! For the most part, YNAB's goals only look at the amount in the Budgeted column to determine whether you've met the goal.
So whether you keep the goal in place or re-establish it starting next month, you may want to budget additional money this month, even though the goal is telling you you don't have to. Everything should look right again starting next month (but let us know if it doesn't!).
