Budgeted in the Future = 0

I have funds budgeted in the future but at the top of my budget page for the current month is shows zero dollars budgeted. Can anyone advise why this is the case?

  • Do you mean the text to the right of TBB with the stats for this month and next?  If so, perhaps you didn’t directly budget that money into the future, but it passed through a category?  Like, you took money out of a category in May from a current category balance in April.

    • Annieland I see - that's exactly right.  So in order for it to c calculate it needs to come from the TBB in the future month?

Contented Apple It should reflect money in the budgeted  column.  Not the available column.

    • Contented Apple There are two things you'll want to look for in May:

      • Is To be Budgeted negative? If so, you'll want to reduce your May budgeted amounts until it's back to zero.
      • Are there any negative numbers in the Budgeted column in May? If so, that's kind of an odd situation where YNAB thinks you plan to move money between categories on May 1. It's not inherently wrong but it's not usually what you want.

And if you’re up for it, I'd be happy to take a look at your budget. If you'd like to do that, go ahead and enable Support Access for your account. Once you’ve done that, let me know—and mention whether you’d like to continue the discussion here or via email instead.

Contented Apple No, in the current month.  But be careful.  There's a "Stealing From the Future" bug where if you  budget money from this month into future months, and overspend or overbudget in the current month, it takes that money from next month without warning.  What you actually did in budgeting money in May from a passthrough category or withdrawing from a category in May is actually best practices in this situation.

    • Matthew Hi Matthew I would greatly appreciate your assistance with this. I have now budgeted for the month of May and some of June - again still not sum provided regarding budgeted in the future at very top of page. Also, it now shows that I am underfunded into July? At this time I'm not interested in budgeting past June.

Please communicate with me via email moving forward.

      Thank you!

  • I too am having this issue. I went forward to may, released NMI to TBB, and started budgeting. Flipping back to April I have 0 in budgeted in the future.

Never mind. I have to release the funds in april, switch to may and budget from there for April to register it.
