Fully funded month for the first time EVER!

It's the first week of August, and for the first time, I am fully funded for the rest of the month. That includes monthly bills, true expenses, savings contributions...EVERYTHING. Given that two years ago I was constantly overdrawn, dodging calls from collectors, and behind on all my bills while dealing with crisis after crisis...I'd much rather be where I am now. I've been YNABing consistently for a year and a half, and all of my efforts are finally paying off! 馃槑

  • That's amazing!  Great job!  It's such a game changer when you start the month knowing exactly how all your bills are going to be paid.  You've worked hard to get to this point, continue the good fight, and see what even better benefits come to you!

  • Great job budgeting!  Isn't it so much less stressful when you know your bills are taken care of?

PhysicsGal - SO much less stressful! It was a fantastic feeling to look at my budget on August 1st and see all that green! Today's paycheck went towards a minor emergency and padding out all of my true expenses and monthly savings goals. Oh - and I also harvested my first Wish Farm item today! Winning all around! 馃榿

Violet Rain You know, I actually have a wish farm but I've never watered it!  I keep telling myself I can't water it until I finish Baby step 3, ie finish up my fully funded emergency fund, but I think this is still the Dave Ramsey mindset in my mind, where you have to be gazelle intense and give up everything until you're done with BS3.  But lately I've been thinking I should start watering my wish farm sometimes.  Whenever I have extra money I have been putting it towards my emergency fund.

I did already decide to buy myself a robot vacuum with my tax refund, whenever it arrives, but you've inspired me to loosen up a little and enjoy the fruits of my hard work now, even if only a little watering every month.  I'm more than half way towards my fully funded emergency fund, so I'm already in much better shape financially than ever before in my life, so why not enjoy it a little?

      Thanks!

PhysicsGal - I'd say whatever works best for you and your situation. Gazelle intensity has never worked well *for me* but it obviously works well for some others - otherwise DR's method wouldn't be as popular as it is. When it comes to my financial intensity, I'm more somewhere between a sloth and a housecat who occasionally gets the zoomies but spends most of the time napping and eating. 馃槀

My first WF item was a pair of earbuds that I've actually had my eye on for awhile, especially since my current ones are pretty old and uncomfortable. They were $28, so not a huge splurge. But it was an intentional purchase, and I just recently even started my Wish Farm. I waited until I was starting to get ahead before I allowed myself to go wild with wants. The last two years I have been working very hard to get myself out of a scarcity mindset, and it hasn't been easy. I've found the best way to do that is to carve out room in my budget for little things that bring me joy, so it doesn't feel like all work and no play. So far, it's worked pretty well! 馃槉

    • PhysicsGal Glad you're going to enjoy it a bit! Some folks can be really intense, our household is not one. 馃槀 A YNABer from the Bootcamps recently mentioned that they change focus by quarter. Q1/Q3 is debt pay down, Q2/Q4 are focused on budgeting for the Wish Farm, house projects, etc. For a balance of necessity and fun!

Nicole - Thank you so much! It has been quite the journey to get to this point, rife with bizarre plot twists, unexpected long-term illness, and...rats. So. Many. Rats. 馃悁馃悁馃悁馃ぃ Can't wait to see where the road leads me next!
