Regarding the date in the budget goal

Hi everyone,

I am new to YNAB and am having trouble understanding what the date here (for Monthly) is for. Is it that I have to budget by then? Or spend by then?

What would be a good set of tutorials to watch for the general setup as well as goals?

Thank you.

  • I don't think it makes sense in this case. According to other threads, that goal is currently being worked on and presumably will make more sense after a future release. IMHO, they should have disabled the "Every" in the Monthly case.

  • The date is by when you need to have the money budgeted. In my budget, if I'm setting a goal to something like groceries that I will be spending all through the month, I have set the date to be end of month. BUT in case of something like my internet bill that always is due around the 15th, I set the date to 15th because I need to have the money to pay the bill then. It is no use for me to have the money half a month later.

    • Rakuna I believe OP's point is the goal behaves identically whether you set the date at the 15th or the end of the month. The goal is still yellow until it's funded, no matter when that occurs relative to the specified date.
