Dec 31/ Jan 1 overspending

Happy New Year everyone!

I have  2 overspending from Dec 31. I went back to Dec and cover those. Is that the way overspending should be handle when moving to a new month? YNAB gives no sign of OS from last month.(yep I read the thread). Am 41 days ahead so no problem getting those covered.

  • Hi Reecemj !

At the top of your budget, cash overspending from the previous month is listed (next to your To Be Budgeted amount). If it was credit overspending, the negative amount will show in your credit card debt balance. Add funds directly to the Credit Card Payment category to pay back that debt. It's always best to cover overspending before the month rolls over (or right after, if the overspending takes place on the last day of the month).

Here's an article about what happens when the month rolls over. Check it out and let me know if you have any other questions! :)

      Got it! Thanks!

  • Most of us who are ahead prefer to cover overspending within the month it occurs.
