I paid off my mortgage!

We paid off our house last month! Rather than paying a monthly mortgage amount, we put $250 towards the house each week (my husband gets paid weekly.) Now I'm doing the same thing to a home equity loan we took out last year to do some much needed updates to the house. That should be paid in 2-3 years and we will be completely debt free.

  • Awesome! Was $250 per week equal to more than your monthly payment would have been?

    • Maroon Projector Our regular payment was around $700/month, so the $250/week was a more than the monthly payment, but we also took advantage of those four extra weeks in a year. And doing it like this made it almost unnoticeable, as we became accustomed to operating on what we had without that $250.

  • Congratulations Coral Lobster ! I'd love to hear if there were other ways you felt like a weekly payment instead of monthly helped you (beyond it being aligned with your husband's pay cycle). Let me (us!) know!

    • Todd Making an automatic weekly payment took that money out of what we had to work with, so we got used to living without it. Also, you get the benefit of those four extra weeks in a year that you don't get making a monthly payment.
