No feature to copy categories?

Do we not have the ability to copy budgets without having to re-create each and every category.  That should be simple and it's time consuming to have to do that.

  • No you can't copy a budget. There is the fresh start which leaves all the categories but I am not 100% sure whether the old budget stays under a different name. One of the more experienced people will jump in and give you an answer to that. I just wanted to save you from searching for the "copy budget" function. It doesn't exist.

  • With a fresh start, your existing budget is archived and you can revert to it at any time.

  • Hi Mr. Alex !

We have plans for a "make a copy" option for a budget. It's road-mapped (not really high, but it's there).

If you’d like to submit this idea for consideration to our product team, please submit a Feature Request to let them know.

Fresh Start allows you to keep your categories, goals, and scheduled transactions, but clears out all budgeting and transaction history. First, YNAB will archive a copy of your current budget for reference.  It will look something like this: Budget Name (Archived on Date).

So if you're looking to test out a new category structure, etc. it can be a good option. Let me know if you have any questions!

No copy, should be easy, could be really useful, but not there. Turn in a feature request, try to get others to turn in the same, closest thing to voting is flooding with individual requests.

Also no back up feature. Export often, even though you can't import it back, you could look at it and recover where you where last.

    • Khaki Storm The ability to restore from a previously saved backup has been requested many many times and discussed.  As important as this is I cannot believe it is not implemented.  I wish they would quit worrying about the minor aesthetic fixes and implement some of the more important fixes first.  We had the ability to restore from multiple saved backups in YNAB4, but I am preaching to the choir.

    • ynaber2613  I agree with you 100%...   I'm onboard since YNAB 3 and am a fan of YNAB...   It was difficult to  move from YNAB4 to the nYNAB due to the lack of many fantastic features that have not migrated to the new YNAB, but fianlly, a year or so ago, I moved...

And to be honest, I have seen no major change included in all this time...  all are cosmetic (move the goals from the bottom of the inspector to the top...  remove italics...  and these type of changes)...   But the ability to import files with categories (basic in my understanding), the possibility to have backups, the possibility of copying a budget to make changes to the category structure and not have to reload all transactions, the ability to set the column width in one account, and this carry over to all accounts (as existed in YNAB4), etc. are not coming and seem to be very low in the development priorities...

As I mentioned, I am a YNAB fan...   but I must say I am not happy with the speed basic and important changes happen...   It is a shame...

PS: I must mention that I do NOT connect to banks and import my transactions...
