Siri Shortcuts

There was an update of the iOS app today to provide access to Siri Shortcuts.  The release notes for the app indicates you can add a transaction from the Siri Shortcuts App.  I've looked and I can't find that action in the Shortcuts app.  Where is it?

Thanks,

Jeff

  • I am having the same problem just updated to the new version of YNAB.

  • You have to add a transaction before the shortcuts show up in the app

However, after that shows up, the "suggestion" that Siri provides in the Shortcut apps doesn't allow you to specify Account, Amount, or anything of that nature in the workflow... (it will suggest something like the amount you added previously, or to the certain account) but there is no way to actually have a step in the shortcut that allows you to select the account dynamically or enter the amount dynamically.

Sad but I was also excited for the feature

Blue Inspector the shortcuts show up in which app?  The Shortcuts app?  I created a transaction in YNAB and then opened the Shortcuts app but could not find the shortcut.  What did I do wrong?

    • Purple Mill To see actions, you'll first need to download 2.6, and then add a transaction. After you've added a transaction in version 2.6, you should see YNAB as an app available when you tap Add Shortcut, then Search, then scroll down.

    • Blue Inspector that is unfortunate. I had hopes of doing interesting things with shortcuts and YNAB.

    • Faness Could you put in a feature request to expand the scope of what can be done? Right now, as it is implemented, it's not very useful to script up any shortcuts necessarily...You cannot enter in custom amounts or direct it to different accounts without dropping into the app

Blue Inspector We definitely can! You are also more than welcome to submit your idea via the Feature Request Form! From there it's collected in a database, and just about every day, our Design Team combs through and codes them all, asking questions like Where is this person in their budgeting journey? What problem are they wanting to solve? Then, in regular research cycles they analyze all this collected feedback to plan for what’s up next  in YNAB!

    • Jannelle I looked around and can’t seem to find any updated information about the iOS shortcuts integration. Is this still in the works?

    • Hi Khaki Wrench !

Here’s a quick article on the Siri Shortcuts for YNAB. If there's something you'd like to see added, please submit a Feature Request, but keep in mind that shortcut is designed for automatic entries you'd like to make faster. :)

    • Faness hi, I use a simple tip calculator tool for when dining out and I want to be able to pass the calculated total price into YNAB without having to type it all out.  I’ll submit a feature request. Thank you :)

    • Khaki Wrench Ooo, I see how that could be helpful! Since you're looking for integration with another app, our API Starter Kit may be a better place to start. If you don't want to tackle building an integration, I completely understand! I can't make any promises about future features, but submitting that feature request makes it a possibility for the future! :)
