Amazon Credit Card not showing up in Budget

New user.  Just set up my October and November Budgets and noticed a problem.

I have two credit cards, Chase Visa & Amazon (SynchronyCredit) and a HELOC.

My Chase credit card appears on the left in the Budget section under All Accounts and then shows up in the Budget as a credit card needing to be paid.  The HELOC is in the budget under the category Debt Payments.

My Amazon credit card, however,  does not show up along as a credit card to be paid even though it is correctly displayed and has a negative balance under All Accounts.

I cannot add it to the Credit Card category in the budget either....Help please.  We need to budget for all those Amazon purchases :(

  • Is there a category for it in the credit card payments section??  If not you definitely need to contact support.

  • Hi FmrMSFan !

It sounds like your credit card account might not be set up as a credit card. When you created the account, was a category automatically created in the Credit Card Payments Group? If not, you've got the wrong type.

To change your account to a credit card account, you'll have to make a new one and move any existing transactions.

    1. Create a new account you want to replace the old one. Do this first! You'll have to give it a slightly different name. Keep the Transaction Import button unchecked for now, and enter a $0 starting balance.

    2. Go to the original account, select all of the transactions, and move them to the new account using the Edit menu.

    3. Refresh your browser.

    4. Delete the original account.

    5. Now, you can edit the name of the new account and/or set up Direct Import if you'd like.

If that doesn't seem to be the culprit, let me know and I can take a closer look at things! :)

Faness  Fixed! thanks.  There weren't any transactions, only the initial balance, so deleting the account was easy.  When I re-linked it, I saw the option to add it as a credit card.  Must have missed that the first time. :)

As a heads up, you should be budgeting to the various spending categories for purchases, whether you pay with the Amazon CC or any other method. It is only for the starting balance on the card that you would budget directly to the Amazon payment category. (Also things like cash back in some cases.)

dakinemaui Yes, understood.  Been using GoodBudget successfully for 7 years and understand how that works.  It's just that the developers have no intention of implementing an auto-import feature for transactions and I'm getting tired of doing it manually.  So, thought I'd give YNAB a shot.

      Thanks for the reply

Direct Import or no, I found GoodBudget to be a hot confusing mess that was unable to escape paycheck to paycheck mentality. It was ironic in that its supposed flexibility made it inflexible.

  • Faness  My Discover card disappeared from the Credit Card Payments section of the budget. It was set up as a credit card over a year ago and was available under that section until last week. I just followed the directions you gave below to get Discover on budgeted payments again. However, I wanted to let you know this happened with an established account as this may be associated with the data aggregation issues with Discover. Seems like it shouldn't be the cause, but technology can be weird.

    • Hi Shelley E !

That's definitely odd and shouldn't have happened. When you have a moment, can you submit a Bug Report? If categories are disappearing, our Bug Team needs to take a closer look. That's behavior we definitely don't want repeating!
