PayPal Activity Reports

I've started getting repeated emails (3-4 per day) from PayPal stating that my "activity report is ready":

"The activity report you requested for the date range <range of dates>, is ready to be downloaded. The file type is 'Quicken - Completed Payments.'"

I requested no such thing so I changed my PayPal password. After about a week of no more activity report emails, I re-connected my PayPal account to YNAB with my new password, and the emails immediately started coming again.

Can anyone confirm that it's actually YNAB that is causing this? There doesn't appear to be any way to turn these emails off. Thanks.

    It's possible that's a request made from our import partner - but I have a PayPal account as well and don't receive those emails.

    Do the emails contain the IP address that requested the report? If you have the IP address, we can confirm whether or not that connection attempt was one made by our import partner.

    If there's any other information listed in the email, I can reach out via email so you don't have to share those details on the forum! :)

  • Not that I can tell; the emails are pretty sparse. There's a link to the report and some sort of PayPal email ID and that's about it.

      It sounds like this is something that's happening because of our import partner's integration with PayPal. When we reached out to them we got this:

      Once PayPal accounts go into the daily batch for aggregation, then the QIF file [the Quicken file our import partner pulls transaction data from] needs to be retrieved from PayPal to get the cleared and posted transactions. Because of that, PayPal's website is sending an email to the account holder on a daily basis. If they don't want to receive these emails then please ask them to check on PayPal's website security setting or in a notification tab to turn off.

      I'm not sure you'll want to turn those off, since it sounds like you might be using it as a security feature but I did want to pass that along just in case you want to consider it as an option. You can also reach out to PayPal directly if you have more questions about that feature.

  • No I did not. I asked PayPal about it and he seemed to be confused that I was getting Activity Reports without requesting them. I sent a reply to try and clear that up.
