Is there any way to delete a credit card?

I added  my solar panel loan as a credit card as opposed to a tracking account because I wanted to figure out how to pay the loan off in 8 years. (Oddly enough, the solar company doesn't do that type of calculation. They charge based on usage, which would mean I could be paying this loan for a very long time.)

In any case, after a few months of doing this, it's more trouble than it's worth. I can't find a way to remove the account without having to account for the $10k balance somewhere. I don't want to start my budget from scratch, so how can I move this account and not have to account for the loan amount?

  • Hi,  Joe LaJackson . That's a great question!

Deleting the account will require you to account for the balance so it might be easier to change it. Right now you can't change an account type with a click - but you can create a new account and move over the history. Here are the steps to do that from the web app:

    1. Create a new account to replace the current one by clicking on Add Account > Skip > Enter Name & Type. Do this first! You'll have to give it a slightly different name. Enter a $0 starting balance for now.

    2. Go to the original account, select all of the transactions, and move them to the new account using the Edit menu

    3. Refresh your browser.

    4. Delete the original account.

    5. Now, you can edit the name of the new account and/or set up Direct Import if you'd like.

That should do it for you!
