Did I do this CC Cash Back correctly?

I have looked around the forums and found a couple answers so I want to make sure I did this right.

I had $413.31 cash back rewards on my credit card.  I chose to use it as a statement credit.  So I did:

1.  Put it as an INFLOW transaction in the credit card account
2.  Moved $413.31 from the budgeted credit card payment amount  to TBB

Yes ??   TIA

  • Yes, that sounds correct.

  • Hey ebazm !

As Ben said, that sounds correct!  You can double check that everything is a-okay by comparing the balance of your credit card account with the balance in your Credit Card Payment category.  If you typically pay your card in full each month, those balances should match exactly (with the account balance being negative and the category balance being positive).  Check it out and let me know what you see!

Ben at YNAB Related question: What if I wanted to use the CC rewards to offset an expense, such as a vacation or a large purchase? I often like doing this - treating rewards like reimbursements - so that the rewards have a purpose and so it feels like an accomplishment to save them up and use them for something special.  Could I categorize the inflow as "vacation"? Or will it mess something up?

Wendy Allen It won't mess anything up in your budget. However it makes your spending reports inaccurate.

The credit card rewards really are extra income and could be used to fund any category in your budget from TBB.
