Switching direct importer/enhancing direct import
I love YNAB but one of biggest grips is that delay in which transactions appear.
I have subscriptions to other services include Quicken, Mint, and WaveApps and it seems like everyone else has near real time direct import.
Do you think you could post a quick explanation as to why you chose an overnight refresh method of import and whether or not there are plans to enhance this in the future?
We're closing out Bank Importing threads in the forum to make sure these issues are better resolved.

Hi King ,
We have a different Direct Import partner than the other companies you mentioned, and we operate on a less frequent import schedule. As you've noticed, we check for transactions once every morning and when you access the app if we haven't imported within the last 12 hours.
Awareness of spending is a big part of why YNAB works and we're totally unique in that our method leans more heavily on active engagement. That means entering transactions as you spend plays a big role in that.
Using that in conjunction with direct import (for filling in where you may've missed), is what we had in mind when we introduced the feature. We know a lot of users rely on it quite a bit, so we’re always re-evaluating and exploring options based on feedback and customer research.
Thanks for letting us know what you'd like to see! Feel free to tag me if you have any other questions :)
Janelle , Thanks for the quick reply. Based on what you said, it seems that an enhancement would be right in line with YNAB philosophy. As a general early adopter who embraces technology, I am more or less a cashless spender. For me, I have total reliance on automated systems to track real time transactions.
For example, when using apple pay, the moment the transaction occurs, my phone dings and has a recording of it. For me direct import is the front line and not for filing in where it may have been missed.
Good to know that feedback was received and here is hoping it enhancements arrive sooner than later.
