Yes, I know YNAB 4 isn't supported anymore, but...

I wanted to see if I could re-download it, and I did. Even found my activation key

 It downloaded fine, but after it loads, it tells me "we're sorry but the budget folder has been deleted out from underneath YNAB, so YNAB must be restarted".

 The problem is, it has been doing it over and over, and will never fully open.

 Ideas?

  • Hi CrazyforYeshua !

    You're right, YNAB 4 is no longer supported, but hopefully some of our YNAB 4 veterans can help! How are you trying to access your YNAB 4 file? Is the Budget file saved locally on your computer or somewhere else?

      CrazyforYeshua Did you use Dropbox on old computer and have you installed it on new computer?

  • I'm guessing here, but at the top-level (root) of your Dropbox folder is a file called ".ynabSettings.yroot". The contents look similar to this:

    {
        "relativeDefaultBudgetsFolder": "YNAB",
        "TED": 17371886400000,
        "relativeKnownBudgets": [
            "YNAB/My Budget~9222579C.ynab4"
        ],
        "formatVersion": "1"
    }

    I suspect if you edit the file and set the part about "relativeKnownBudgets" to be like this:

        "relativeKnownBudgets": [
            ""
        ],

    then it might let you start. If that fails, then try deleting those three lines entirely from the file.

    • dakinemaui  I don't see that. All I get is the "folder", but I have no clue what to open it with. I have none of the things it lists as an option, except Dropbox, but it doesn't open as you pictured

    • CrazyforYeshua That filename starts with a period, so it may be hidden by your file browser. Can you set that to show hidden files? You would open that file with any text editor or notepad application.

    • It keeps closing, even after changing the file.

    • CrazyforYeshua You might try renaming that .ynabSettings.yroot file so YNAB won't look at it. (Renaming lets you put it back if that doesn't work.) For example, "old.ynabSettings.yroot"

    • dakinemaui It only crashed when I synced it to Dropbox, so I don't have it syncing

    • CrazyforYeshua Now that you've got it working, you should be able to change that budget to use Cloud Sync (Dropbox). I assume you use the mobile app, which is the main reason to use Dropbox.

    • dakinemaui  That's when it crashes, I can't figure out why. I figure I'm just going to leave it, I don't want to mess it up again

      Just checking.  I know Macs have their own issue when it comes to YNAB4.
