Reconciling affects previous month's "Ready To Assign"


In the middle of the month, I reconciled one of my cash accounts, which created a reconciliation transaction of some negative amount. "Ready to Assign" is now negative, and to cover it I reassigned this amount from another category. All is being done in the **current** month's budget.

I looked at the previous month, and I see a positive "Ready to Assign" in the previous month's budget. Obviously, it's not money I can assign anywhere (If I assign it in the previous month's budget, the current month's will become negative again, so it's clearly not money I'm allowed to "touch"). Can't understand the reasoning of why this happens. Why does the previous month care at all about what I do in the current month?
