Savings transfer not showing up as "to be budgeted"?
Hello, I keep a prudent reserve in my (linked) savings account for when I may need additional funds in my budget (which I refer to as my spending plan).
I just transferred $500 from savings to checking which YNAB defaults to "transfer to/from savings", there is no option to have this flow into the budget into a category or "to be budgeted".
My bank account shows the transfer (as I duplicated it there). YNAB shows the checking account with $500 more and the savings account with $500 less, but nothing has changed in the budget.
I have items in my budgeted now in the red and I need to fund them. My budget shows $0.00 to be budgeted, but I need to see the $500.
What am I not getting?

The money in your savings account is already in your budget, some of it might be in "savings" categories, such as new car, income replacement, insurance deductibles, etc. But it's in your budget. If you didn't specifically budget to a savings category, then the money in your savings account is in some other category in your budget, but it's definitely in there. If you want to spend $500 on something, you've got to find the money in your budget, and move it from other categories.

I don't have budget categories with balances (that I am aware of).You don’t? You should. Unless you’ve spent every budgeted penny. Go to your budget screen and look at the Available column.

I'm guessing she may want to use a tracking account for savings and keep them off budget. Granted, that will not fix her current reconciliation issue. If you want the savings to be included in your budget, then use a budget account. If you want the savings separate (my retirement fund, for example, is not on budget), then use a tracking account.
