Line of Credit Loan in Credit Card Section - How to move to debt?

I have a line of credit loan that currently resides in the Credit Card main category in my budget. I would like to have it designated as a loan and move it to debt. Can I do that? I have a fixed payment each month until it is paid off. Thanks for any help.

  • I would highly recommend against it. The issues with the loan feature have been documented to point of absurdity. Unless your loan conforms to U.S.-based mortgage rules you'll be struggling with the feature (and even then it doesn't work perfectly).

If you don't want the account as a budget account and you only pay it down but do not draw from it, you should consider making it a tracking Liability account or not having it in YNAB at all. If you are interested in either of those options  instructions can be provided.

nolesrule thanks for responding. I didn't realize there were big issues with the loan feature.

It is set up as a tracking Liability account.

Question then is: can I make the actual Loan I have that is in the loans section a tracking Liability account. It's a new loan, first payment happens on Friday, so no history to speak of. Thanks.

internettie I'd just create a new account for the loan and delete the Loan account. You can't change account types of an existing account.
