"To be budgeted" not matching "From Savings"
Been doing great the last couple months when i encountered my "To be budgeted" not matching "From Savings". What you can see is I have $246 under "to be budgeted" at the top (left over to carry over to Jun) when the 3,874.76 is in the "from savings". These two should be reflective. We did transfer money from savings to our joint account to use when buying a puppy in May. I would thought we would negative -583.38 to the "from Saving" to justify the transfer. All bank accounts are accurate on the left blue bar other than our "from saving" to. Just not sure where i messed up here. Please help!
Read the above, preferably following along in a fake budget. In short, your TBB doesn’t change when you change money in your accounts. it will of course never match a category—TBB is the money in your accounts which is not yet in a category. If From Savings has $3874 then $3874 of your total money has the job to do “from savings.” Phrased that way, hopefully you can also see why “from savings” is not a great job title—it doesn’t say what the dollars are *for*, which is the purpose of the budget.
If you moved money in your accounts, but did not change the job from “from savings” to “buy puppy,” then the $530 did not have the job of puppy-buying. What does your puppy buying category look like?
WordTenor is right on here! I also find that working through the steps in this budget audit is also helpful in conceptualizing how my cash on hand is represented in the budget.
If you're still feeling a bit suspicious of these numbers, let us know - we can definitely keep digging into this!
P.S. How are things with the new pup!? Pics, please! 😆
