Move Budgeted Funds from One Month to Another

Hi there, I budged 89.95 for internet accidently in Dec...for Jan's payment. So, if I go to Dec, it shows 89.95 in green ready to go...and in Jan, it says -89.95.

How can I move funds from December to cover Jan?

Thank you!

  • Assuming that you are referring to the Budgeted column in both months, the problem is that in January you removed the 89.95 from the category that carried over from December and put it into another category. You need to put it back.

  • Okay, when I just put it back, it puts me in the negative for Jan, but Dec still shows the funds available? Thank you for your help!

Negative where? To Be Budgeted? If you add money to a category, you have to take it out of another category to keep TBB at zero.

Sky Blue Grizzly When you took the money out of the category in January, you budgeted it somewhere else. So you need to take it from the somewhere else.

  • Can you click on the green amount showing in December, move it to the "to be budgeted" category (which then would show 89.95 TBB, then drop it back into the Jan budget? This is assuming that you can change budget amounts in a prior month - I haven't been doing this long enough to test that idea!

    • Sac Army Green Thank you...doesn't seem like you can do this!  Ugh. I will keep trying.

  • I would have just left it budgeted in Dec and then spent it in Jan. It was available then via carryover.

I may be an outlier, but I find it better for several reasons to budget money in the month it is received -- i.e., not in next month's area. (This changes when someone has enough saved to fully budget next months area.)

  • I find the description to be ambiguous. If you budgeted the money in December, then it was money you already had, right? If not, do you see the "Stealing from the future" in the top bar? That would give you a green amount in the category for December, and the negative amount in the To Be Budgeted in January.

In the former case, just leave the money in the category, and spend it in January.

In the latter case, just delete the budgeted amount in December, and put it in the budged for January.
