How do I move money back a month?

How do I move money back a month?

I budgeted some money in March for a friend's birthday meal out but now the friend has said they are having something at theirs, so I will just need to take a bottle of wine at about a 6th of the price. We've had a bill that was higher than we were expecting in the current month (February) but I can't work out how to move that money back into February's To be budgeted to pay the bill. Getting a bit frustrated. The money is stuck in March's To Be Budgeted, which doesn't help me much.

  • Have you tried just deleting that amount from the TBB amount or from the gift or dining out category where every you have it budgeted too?

But is there really no other solution? Is the idea that you don't budget for the next month until it arrives? That idea makes me anxious.

    • Ruff16965 (05bd62cee897) it wouldn’t let me delete it, I had to zero out the entire budget for April in order to get it to revert back to March. It was strange because money would show up in to be budgeted for April but not in March.

  • Did you budget the money in February or in March? it sounds like you may have released money back to TBB in March that you had originally budgeted in a previous month.

    • nolesrule I budgeted the money in March for the meal out. I don't really understand what you mean about releasing money back. Sorry, I feel a bit dense.

  • Are you trying to use the "Move Money" tool? If so, I think the limitation may be that Move Money doesn't work across months.

Instead, try removing the unneeded amount from March's budget (moving it back to March's TBB - sounds like you may have already done this step). THEN, switch back to Feb and manually change the budget amount in February to cover to bill. Does any red appear (in either Feb OR March) when you do this? If not, I think you might be all set, as freeing up the $$ for March should make it available to budget in either Feb or March.

    Any luck?

    • Resistant Punch Roller Not really unfortunately. I typed in the box instead of using the move money tool. I now have a red -£19.73 in February TBB and a Green £40.27 in March. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I feel like there's probably something simple I'm missing. I might email the support folks.

  • You can budget for next month whenever you have the money (to be budgeted is not red).

In in the situation you’re asking about, reduce your “birthday” (or whatever you call it) budget in March. That amount should be added to your to be budgeted. Then flip back to Feb. and you should see that to be budgeted is the same as March. Budget until to be budgeted is zero.

    • jayne_m Thanks for your reply. I have tried that but the result is the same. I have -£19.73 (red) in February and Green £40.27 in March.

Tight Rope Walker Did you have any overspent categories in January? If so, that would be deducted from February's to be budgeted and could be causing it to be red.

  • It looks like at some point you got your issue resolved. I’m having the same issue now. I in advertently budgeted money in April that I still need for March but I can’t get it to show up in the to be budgeted category in March. It only shows up in April. Can you tell me how to move it back to the current month?

    • Matthew hi, I was able to resolve it. I reset everything for April‘s budget to zero. Because for some reason the 2B budgeted money would show up in April but it wouldn’t show up in March. I’m not sure if this is a glitch but I feel like there should be a way that you could tap on it to be budgeted money that shows up in future months to move it to your current month. It was very strange.

  • I'm having a similar issue. I didn't keep up with my weekly budgeting routine in February and I'm trying to play "catch up" now. My account currently shows $1.40 TBB in February. My February budget as a whole is underfunded by about $2160. For March, my account shows about $1547 TBB. I would like to move the $1547 to February to "cover" as many expenses as I can. Plus, my April account shows $621 TBB for sme reason. So I'd like to be able to move both the March and April TBB amounts to February to cover the expenses there and have a "fresh start" for March. Is there an easy way to reallocate TBB funds retroactively from a current month to a month in the past?  I hope this makes sense. I'm fairly new to this system, so I'm still trying to get the hang of this.  Thanks in advance for your help! (photos attached)

Turquoise Trombone if you didn’t receive the money until March then you can’t use it in February...

you currently have $1547.12 you can budget in March. First you need to cover all red overspending and then budget the remaining $621. Once you have budgeted that then both March and April will show $0

    • Turquoise Trombone I am still new as well looks like you figured something out and I did as well, but again I feel like there needs to be an easier way to move money from one month to the next. That should be an option.
