Checking on accounts, Less is More?
Has anyone else done this? Using the YNAB online I tended to get in and fiddle with transactions daily. Using YNAB4 I would not mess with anything for seven days or even up to two weeks. Well I'm getting the notifications and trying to keep it all straight. This lead to a panic however.
I convinced myself this Friday was 8/24 not 8/23. When I made up the budget and assigned dollars to expenses, I had the right dates. Because I now misread the calendar I panicked that I had an enormous error and I was going to miss critical loan payments. I scrambled to get money to paste over the problem, only to realize later in the day, that I had the budget set up properly the first time.
Is this a common event for folks new to the system and the habits of messing with things all of the time? Or is this just my special failure?
Ad Astra Per Aspera,
Hi Kevin !
Welcome to YNAB and to the forum! :)
No worries, budget fidgeting is definitely normal - especially when getting started! I've been using YNAB for years, and I still check my budget frequently (sometimes multiple times a day). We don't want your budget to be panic inducing - just the opposite! It's great to check your budget, reference it before spending, change and re-change things to better align with your priorities, but it should become more comforting and less worrisome overtime.
When you have a moment, take a look at our Budget Template video. When you have a plan in place for your budget, it's easier to make sure all corners are covered! :)
