Works outside the US?

New here going to start with a ton of reading up. But initially curious if this works for small countries outside of the US and Canada?

  • Yes it does. You will have to do manual entry though.

  • Hi Lavender Zebra !

Welcome to YNAB and to the forum! :)

Satcook is exactly right! YNAB works internationally, but direct import is only supported for financial institutions in the US and Canada.

That said, if there’s a specific international institution you’d like considered for the future I hope you’ll take a moment to suggest it in the app, if you haven’t already!

We have a few other features to help make entering transactions easy and fast at this point:

File-Based Importing: You can import your transactions by downloading a transaction file (typically OFX or QFX files) from your bank and then importing that file to YNAB.

Scheduled Transactions: You can plan for future transactions, including repeating ones, right in the account register. Select the frequency of the transaction by using the drop-down menu below the calendar.

    - Mobile apps: We have new apps for iPhone/iPad and Android.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you get started! :)

I've thought about using it for a small business, but not a small country, lol. I'm in the USA, but do everything manually. I feel it keeps my wife and I more focused on the budget.

  • What about Paypal? I have a Paypal account along with a Paypal debit card. Does YNAB support Paypal?

Lavender Zebra It shows up in the search for create linked account, I haven't tried it myself though since my paypal just uses my credit card.

Our Direct Import partner doesn't support financial institutions outside of the US/Canada, but Paypal falls in a different category. The web address for Paypal is universal, so you can have a non US/Canada Paypal account and it still connects it in YNAB. However, it's when it imports that you'll run into some difficulty, since their integration doesn't support currency conversion.

So, unfortunately, your choices are either the convenience of direct import accompanied with the issue of editing to the correct amounts, or unlinking Paypal and just entering your transactions yourself.

Let me know if you have any more questions!
